Labs Making The World A Better Place

GUIDE LABS: Labs become the eyes for sight impaired owners and must be sensitive to the owners movements and needs. Rigorous training in navigating a variety of obstacles like stairs, streets, intersections, overhead obstacles, any dangers that could injure the owner. Guide dogs are well disciplined and have to stay focused on their job.

HEARING LABS: Labs as service dogs for hearing impaired and physically disabled. Labs are very friendly, loving, helpful, in tuned with their owner needs that they are wonderful in this work. Hearing dogs are trained to alert their owner to sounds like phones, door bells, smoke alarms, crying baby.

ASSISTANCE LABS: Labs helping the physically disabled with daily tasks that give their owner independence. Assisitance labs can pick up dropped objects or retrieve objects like phones, keys, utensils, tv remotes. They can open and close doors and even move wheelchairs. Labs are ideal for this work because of their size, strenght, gentle nature and intuition.

THERAPY LABS: Volunteering your lab to help cheer the day of nursing home residents, hospitalized children and any one in need of some love. Your lab must pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen test.

CLASSROOM LABS: Bring your lab to school or local youth groups to educate kids about dogs. Also labs helping kids become better readers when they are involved in school reading programs. Labs love kids, are gentle, kind, and make a great teaching assistant.   

SEARCH/RESCUE LABS: Labs that like to be active make great search/rescue "SAR" dogs. Labs are athletic, intelligent, highly trainable, love human companionship, have great coats for all weather, love to retrieve and being outdoors.

POLICE/MILITARY/DOCTOR LABS: Labs have a kind loving big heart willing to help any in need. They have a great sense of smell with their big nose. Sniffing out illegal drugs, produces, fish, gas leaks, explosives, skin and lung cancer. 

BOMB LABS: Labs finding explosives, land mines, arson detection.

DRUG LABS: Labs pin point out even small well concealed drugs. Labs are very intelligent, trainable, willing to cooperate for detecting drugs. 

GOOD CITIZEN LABS: Labs are well behaved making them perfect good citizens. They love people, kids, other animals and making friends. They love to please their owners.

FAMILY LABS: Labs are happiest when they are with you. The lab is adaptable, loving, friendly, intelligent, loyal, tolerant, even tempered, people oriented dog. A true family companion, the lab integrates himself into every aspect of the family life with ease and enthusiasm. Take the time training your lab to be a good family member. Training takes time and patience. Petco/PetSmart offer Obedience Classes. Focus on praising your dog for all the things he/she does right - this will help your pup learn quicker. Proper exercise, training and attention will give you a happy, healthy labrador. Labs are wonderful family companions and always look to please their owners. 

HOUSE TRAINING: Keep your puppy on a schedule of eating, drinking, peeing and pooping. Puppy needs to be supervised or needs a safe blocked off play area with safe play toys. Teach your puppy with praise. Take puppy to preselected elimination spot outside when its potty time. 1. When puppy wakes up. 2. After a drink of water. 3. After eating. The younger the pup the sooner after eating or drinking, little older pup then 10-15 mins. The old they get the longer they can wait. 4. Whenever anything exciting happens. 5. Whenever you play with her/him for five minutes. 6. Hasn't gone potty in awhile. 7. First thing in the morning. 8. Before putting puppy in the crate or safe play/rest area. 9. Last thing at night. Teach your puppy to go "Outside" When your outside at the potty spot say "go potty" "pee/poop" When puppy is done praise, praise, praise "good go pee/poop outside" give puppy happy pats on the side. Your puppy will see how happy you are and he/she will learn that peeping/pooping outside is a very good thing to do.
